The COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting our lives. People are losing jobs in record numbers. Millions of families are struggling to make ends meet and care for loved ones. And nearly 40% of households do not have even $400 saved in the event of an emergency. But in the face of this crisis, communities are coming together in beautiful and effective ways to empower each other in these unprecedented times.
#GiveTogetherNow is a rapid-response effort to get cash assistance into the hands of families most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Families can use this money for whatever is most pressing in their unique situation—to cover childcare, to pay the electric bill, to get food or medicine. We believe that families know best what they need most.
#GiveTogetherNow was launched by the nonprofit organizations Stand Together and the Family Independence Initiative, which have decades of experience connecting families with essential resources to empower them to transform their own lives. All donations to #GiveTogetherNow go directly to families who have experienced financial hardships due to COVID-19.
Individuals and organizations across the country donate money to support families most affected by the coronavirus.
#GiveTogetherNow works with more than 100 local nonprofits to identify, nominate, and help verify eligible households for cash assistance.
Once verified, eligible households will receive a one-time cash payment of $500 right into their bank account.
Within the first few weeks, #GiveTogetherNow raised more than $50 million — enough to provide $500 in cash assistance to more than 100,000 families. The project recently surpassed $120 million in donations, helping nearly 240,000 families. You can still donate to those most affected by the pandemic through Family Independence Initiative by clicking here.
That means we’ve raised enough to help over
100% of donations go directly to families that have been most affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
A phone call to someone who lives alone. Groceries sent to someone that you know needs them. A card for someone whose birthday party was canceled. There are endless ways to reach out to the people around us. Have you done something to help someone in need? Tell us your story, because it could mean a direct cash payment for a family in need.
