#GiveTogetherNow is a rapid response effort to get cash assistance into the hands of families most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe that families know best what they need most. So families can use this cash assistance for whatever is most pressing in their unique situation—to cover childcare, to pay the electric bill, to buy groceries, or anything else.

#GiveTogetherNow was launched by the nonprofit organizations Stand Together and the Family Independence Initiative, which has decades of experience connecting families with essential resources to empower themselves to transform their lives.

  1. Through the #GiveTogetherNow platform, donors both large and small make contributions and individuals post acts of kindness (See Give Kindness below).
  2. We work with more than 250 local nonprofits to identify, nominate, and help verify eligible households for cash assistance from within their programs.
  3. Once verified, eligible households will receive a one-time cash payment of $500 right into their bank account. 100% of the donations collected through this campaign go directly to families that have been most affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

Family Independence Initiative is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Your donation to Family Independence Initiative is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Please consult your tax advisor.

100% of your donation will go directly to eligible households as Family Independence Initiative is absorbing all fees during this campaign.

Nearly 40 percent of U.S. households do not have even $400 in a savings account to use in the event of an emergency, so each eligible household will receive a one-time payment of $500. That way, #GiveTogetherNow may reach as many impacted households as quickly as possible while also providing enough cash to make a difference. The reduced stress and increased well-being of these recipients will have an indirect yet positive impact on their broader communities.

Family Independence Initiative has been providing direct cash payments to low-income households across the country for almost two decades. Our experience has confirmed what we have always believed: Low-income households are just like you and me and spend their dollars on what they know to be best for their own families. Our data consistently shows significant improvements in both financial metrics (increases in income, savings, and assets; reductions in dependency) and general well-being indicators (health improvements; educational accomplishments; childrenu2019s grades and attendance).

We will be relying on our trusted partners in the philanthropic sector to identify households in need of financial assistance during this difficult time. The personal Identity of each recipient will be carefully verified before any funds are distributed.

UpTogether is a technology platform that facilitates cash transfers and social capital exchanges between its members and partners to advance economic mobility and contribute to the growing body of evidence that strength-based approaches to poverty are more impactful than those focused on deficits.

#GiveTogetherNow utilizes the UpTogether platform in order to get cash transfers directly into the hands of households most negatively impacted by COVID-19 as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Give Kindness FAQs

#GiveTogetherNow is growing in new ways. Over $38 million has been raised in the first four weeks for direct cash transfer to families effected by COVID. Inspired by all of the community contributions that go beyond financial donations in response to COVID-19, #GiveTogetherNow has expanded options for individuals to give kindness, too.

We’re all in this together! We’ll get through it together, too. In the face of this crisis, communities are coming together in beautiful and effective ways to empower those who need help in these unprecedented times.
